The Place, 5 White Lion Walk, Banbury

Telephone number: 01295 278040

The Place was opened in May 2006 as a centre for activities for mainly the over 50’s. The Place provides opportunities to promote and sustain the well being of older people in terms of social life, creative ambitions and their physical and psychological health, in addition to serving fresh food and drink. The Place serves fresh food and drink from 10.30 to 2.30 Tuesday to Saturday and volunteers greet customers, chat to them and generally make them feel very welcome. The Place also acts as a conduit to the services in the Age Concern offices upstairs.

We run 3 Tai Chi classes a week, which are well attended and we are considering additional classes.

Internet classes in partnership with a local internet shop.

Film Club meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 7pm

Book club meets on the last Thursday of each month at 3pm. Members take turns to choose books which leads to lively debate.

Supper club meets on the second Friday of each month at 7pm. We have a variety of speakers and a good supper.

Sunday Swing is starting up again in August. This gives people a chance to meet and dance or sing in a relaxed atmosphere.

Tuesday Lunch Club will be starting in August. The idea being for people to come into The Place, have lunch and then stay on for a chat, a demonstration or talk on something of interest, with tea, coffee and cake being served in the afternoon.

Yoga – we are starting new classes in September.
